How to generate a filament slicer profile

Select your printer platform, extruder type, and filament family. The generator produces starter values for temperature, cooling, retraction, and flow — plus a two-step calibration plan to finalise tuning before production.

What print temperature should I start with for PLA?

210–215 °C nozzle and 60 °C bed is a reliable starting point for most PLA brands on a standard FDM printer. Direct drive extruders can often go slightly lower (205 °C). Run a temperature tower to find your specific brand's sweet spot before printing production parts.

What retraction settings should I use for PETG?

PETG is prone to stringing. Start with 1–2 mm retraction at 25 mm/s for direct drive, or 4–6 mm at 40 mm/s for Bowden. Reduce print speed to 40–50 mm/s and lower temperature to the bottom of your range. Minimal retraction often performs better than aggressive retraction with PETG.

Why does my filament profile not work on a new spool?

Filament varies between batches and brands even within the same material family. Moisture absorption also changes behaviour significantly. Run a fresh temperature tower and flow rate calibration for each new spool if you notice quality differences from your saved profile.
